I guess the “friendly cop” was a popular format for a kid’s show.
In Atlanta we had “Officer Don” who was better known as Don Kennedy a long time radio DJ and show host.
I even got to be on the “Popeye Club with Officer Don and Orville” when I was 5.
That was about 1966.
How many local markets around the country even have some kind of locally hosted show like this anymore?
We also had a show called “Tubby and Lester” with two guys that were a knockoff of Laurel and Hardy.
That was in addition to all the Friday night horror shows and the “Dialing for Dollars Movie with Freddie Miller” every afternoon.
Anyone else have a memory like that to share?
i’m too young to remember stuff like that. most shows like that were fading out when i was born. i think the closest i could get would be Bozo T. Clown out of Chicago. if memory serves me right, we also had Fat Albert (with a young Bill Cosby) as well.
my old man used to enjoy Soul Train, during this time. there were certain dancers would appear on a regular basis.

You mean you got to be on television? Wow, what a memory, imagine if we had had VCRs back then. Your parents could have taped it, and shown it to your kids, if you have any.
Met Officer Joe AND the Stooges at the Clyde Beatty
circus, Commack LI NY, a bazillion years ago. True story.
@Slam, LOL I was just imagining having a big 2″ videotape machine like they had at WSB back then!
My dad used to bring home worn out spools of the stuff for me to play with when I was little. He worked over at WAII (WXIA now) in those days.
Yep, got a kid, doubt he’d care!
