Puppy Surprise

funny puppy surprise toy photo

I think the only good thing about Puppy Surprise was the fact that the puppies didn’t shit everywhere and chew everything. I bet everyone who had this toy stopped playing with the old maid once they pulled the puppies out of the pouch. Am I right?

  3. i was sooo excited when i got mine for christmas….only i got jipped big time. you were supposed to be guaranteed at least two puppies and i only got one. i agree with jessica that they were equally cute and gross. however, nowhere near as creepy as the pregnant barbie.

  5. There was a cat version of this, too. I had one, but now all I have is one of the three kittens…I think the cat was the first part to get lost!!

  11. I remember these well, although I never asked for one. I always felt it was unfair to not know exactly how many puppies were coming with the doll (which I suppose was the surprise). I remember seeing many torn boxes in the toy aisles, I guess other children or parents generally wanted to make sure they were getting the most bang for their buck and were searching for the ones that had all five, as well. I’m surprised the stores didn’t stop selling them sooner because of all the trouble!

  15. I still have one of these! :D It had three puppies, and I still have all of them, surprisingly enough. XD I had the cat and the pony too, but I have no idea what happened to them. :(

  17. I had a pink dog. The craziest thing is there were four pink puppies and a black one. But I loved them all!

  19. I had the puppy and the kitty. Completely forgot they made the pony, rabbit, bear, etc. ones! I had the pink cat and the pink dog, and each had three babies inside. The end of the commercial said 1 in 5 or so would have all 5 babies.

  21. This was such an irresponsible toy! I hated it then and I still think it’s a dumb idea. Spay and Neuter!

  25. Me and my five older sisters each begged for a kitty suprise. We were heart broken on christmas day when we discovered we had to all share one. It was awesome because when we opened it there were 5 kittens so we could each have a baby, and my oldest sister could have the mommy. Good times.

  27. In fact, I still have the kitty with all five babies.

  29. I had the puppy with 4 babies, and my sister had a kitty with 3 babies. I probably still have the puppy somewhere in my parent’s basement. I got it not to long after our family dog miscarried all of her puppies, and she would continuously steal the tan (yellow?) puppy. She’d hide it in her bed, carry it around the house, and cry when my mom tried to take it from her. I didn’t mind sharing, I still had a pink puppy, blue puppy (how morbid…) and a spotted puppy to play with.

  31. @Sidney – Yup! I bought one on eBay a few years ago… Barbie has a removable pregnant belly & when you take it off, there is a newborn inside. Creepy! ;-)

  33. I loved mine!! And I put the puppies back in and she gave birth over and over lol! If I remember correctly, she had a smaller “premmie” puppy as well…

  35. I had the pink Puppy Surprise with 3 puppies. As I got older I got less interested in it but still kept it thinking I could find something to do with it. The puppies are like bean bags and I taught myself how to juggle with them. haha Of course I would never juggle real puppies.

  37. I had the bear surprise, as I’m a lifetime teddy collector. I still have the mom & 1 baby; I’m not sure if there only WAS 1, or I lost the rest along the way.

  43. I have the puppy, pony and bunny and gave them to my daughter and she just loves them. I got all 5 bunnies and puppies and 3 ponies. You could also buy more babies seperately (which they come with little clothes and other extras) for “adoption”, I ended up with 7 puppies (2 adoptees) and a kitty. For the pregnant barbie, they also came with twins, my oldest neice had one with twins.
